Hygiene, dental care, and self-care routines

Aligned to NHES 7 — SHAPE America National Standards.

What this lesson teaches

As you get older, you take more charge of keeping yourself clean and healthy, like brushing and flossing your teeth, showering, and following a daily routine. These habits prevent problems like cavities and keep you feeling fresh, which matters even more as puberty approaches. Owning your routine is a sign of growing responsibility.

Worked example

A solid daily routine might be: brush teeth for two minutes morning and night, floss once a day, and shower regularly. A timer can make the two minutes of brushing easy to track.

Practice questions

  1. How long should you brush your teeth?
  2. Name two parts of a daily self-care routine.
  3. Why is flossing important?
