Growth, body changes, and early puberty basics
Aligned to NHES 1 — SHAPE America National Standards.
What this lesson teaches
Bodies grow and change at their own pace, and everyone is on a different timeline, which is completely normal. As you get a little older, you begin a stage called puberty, when your body slowly changes into a more grown-up body. Knowing this ahead of time helps it feel less surprising and nothing to be embarrassed about.
Worked example
Think about how some classmates are taller or shorter than others even at the same age. That is because everyone grows at their own speed, and there is no right or wrong pace.
Practice questions
- Is it normal for friends to grow at different speeds?
- What is the name for the stage when your body changes?
- Who can you ask questions about growing up?
