What this lesson teaches
We can look at how-to books to learn steps. Then we write our own steps to teach someone.
Worked examples
Example 1
After reading how to plant a seed, we write: "Step 1: Dig a hole. Step 2: Drop the seed. Step 3: Add water."
Example 2
After reading about making a sandwich: 'Step 1: Get two slices of bread. Step 2: Add the filling. Step 3: Put them together.'
Example 3
Number the steps. A how-to without numbers makes the reader guess what comes first.
Practice questions
- Look at a how-to book together.
- Write the first step to do something.
- Add a second step in order.
