How-To Helpers

Aligned to W.1.7 — Common Core State Standards for English Language Arts.

What this lesson teaches

We can look at how-to books to learn steps. Then we write our own steps to teach someone.

Worked example

After reading how to plant a seed, we write: "Step 1: Dig a hole. Step 2: Drop the seed. Step 3: Add water."

Practice questions

  1. Look at a how-to book together.
  2. Write the first step to do something.
  3. Add a second step in order.

Paso 3: Agrega agua."
