Sleep and rest for a healthy body

Aligned to NHES 1 — SHAPE America National Standards.

What this lesson teaches

Your body needs lots of sleep to grow, learn, and feel good, more than grown-ups need. A calm bedtime routine, like a bath and a book, helps your body get ready to rest. Good sleep makes you happier, stronger, and ready to play the next day.

Worked example

A cozy bedtime might be: take a bath, brush your teeth, read one story, then lights out. Doing the same steps each night tells your body it is time to sleep.

Practice questions

  1. Name two things in a calm bedtime routine.
  2. Why does your body need sleep?
  3. What helps you wind down before bed?
