My body, growth, and personal boundaries

Aligned to NHES 1 — SHAPE America National Standards.

What this lesson teaches

Your body belongs to you, and it grows and changes a little every year. It is good to know the real names for your body parts. You get to decide about your own body, and it is always okay to say no to a hug or touch you do not want.

Worked example

If a relative wants a hug but you do not feel like it, you can say no thank you and give a wave or a high five instead. Your body, your choice.

Practice questions

  1. Say one true name for a body part.
  2. Is it okay to say no to a hug you do not want?
  3. Who can you tell if a touch feels wrong?
