Naming and managing feelings
Aligned to NHES 7 — SHAPE America National Standards.
What this lesson teaches
Everyone has feelings like happy, sad, mad, and scared, and all feelings are okay. When you can name how you feel, it is easier to handle big feelings and ask for help. A calm-down trick like slow belly breathing can help when feelings get really big.
Worked example
When you feel mad, try this: breathe in slowly while your belly puffs out like a balloon, then breathe out slowly. Do it three times and notice your body feeling calmer.
Practice questions
- Name three different feelings.
- Show three slow belly breaths.
- What can you do when you feel sad?
