Daily active play and physical activity

Aligned to SHAPE 3 — SHAPE America National Standards.

What this lesson teaches

Being active means moving your body a lot, like running, jumping, and playing. When you move fast your heart beats quicker and your body gets warm, and that means you are getting stronger. Kids feel happiest and healthiest with about an hour of play and movement every day.

Worked example

Run in place for 20 seconds, then put your hand on your chest. Can you feel your heart beating faster? That is your body working hard and getting healthy.

Practice questions

  1. Run in place for 20 seconds.
  2. Put your hand on your heart and feel it beat.
  3. Name one active game you love to play.
