Fundamental motor skills (locomotor & manipulative)

Aligned to SHAPE 1 — SHAPE America National Standards.

What this lesson teaches

Fundamental motor skills are the basic movements your body learns to do, like hopping, skipping, galloping, throwing, catching, and kicking. These are the building blocks for every game and sport you will ever play. The more you practice them, the smoother and easier they feel.

Worked example

Try galloping across the room like a horse, then stop and toss a soft ball up and catch it three times. Notice how your feet lead when you gallop and how you watch the ball to catch it.

Practice questions

  1. Skip across the room and back.
  2. Toss a soft ball up and catch it 3 times.
  3. Name two ways your body can move.

Habilidades motoras fundamentales (locomotrices y manipulativas)
