Moving to rhythm and simple dance

Aligned to SHAPE 1 — SHAPE America National Standards.

What this lesson teaches

Rhythm is a beat you can move to, like clapping or stepping in time with music. Dancing is a fun way to be active, and it helps your body learn timing and coordination. There is no wrong way to dance, you can even make up your own moves.

Worked example

Put on a favorite song and clap along with the beat. Then march your feet in time, step-step-step, and add your own silly arm moves.

Practice questions

  1. Clap along to a beat 8 times.
  2. March in time to a song.
  3. Make up one dance move of your own.
