How Many Do You See?

Aligned to K.CC.B.5 — Common Core State Standards for Mathematics.

What this lesson teaches

To find how many, we count each thing one time - whether they are in a line or spread all around.

Example 1

You see 6 stickers scattered on the table. Touch each one as you count: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6. There are 6.

Example 2

5 buttons are lined up in a row. Count them: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5. Now push them into a pile and count again — still 5.

Example 3

Move each toy to a new spot as you count it. That way you never count one toy twice or skip one.
