What this lesson teaches
When you hear a word you don't know, you can ask what it means.
Worked examples
Example 1
If a story says a cat is 'gigantic,' you can ask, 'What does gigantic mean?' — it means very, very big!
Example 2
If a story says the wind was 'howling,' ask what that means — it means the wind was loud, like an animal crying out.
Example 3
Pictures give clues about new words. If the page says 'drenched' and shows a boy dripping wet, you can guess it means very wet.

- Point to a word you don't know and ask about it.

- Ask a grown-up about a funny word you heard.

Cuando escuchas una palabra que no conoces, puedes preguntar qué significa.
Ejemplo 1: Si un cuento dice que un gato es 'gigante', puedes preguntar: '¿Qué significa gigante?' — ¡significa muy, muy grande!
Ejemplo 2: Si un cuento dice que el viento 'aullaba', pregunta qué significa — significa que el viento sonaba fuerte, como un animal.
Ejemplo 3: Los dibujos dan pistas sobre palabras nuevas. Si la página dice 'empapado' y muestra a un niño chorreando, puedes adivinar que significa muy mojado.
