Aligned to RL.K.1 — Common Core State Standards for English Language Arts.

What this lesson teaches

Good readers ask and answer questions about a story — who is in it, where it happens, and what happens — using the words and pictures.

Worked example

In a story about a lost puppy, we can answer: Who? the puppy. Where? the park. What happened? it found its way home.

Practice questions

  1. Who are the characters in a story you know?
  2. Where does the story take place?
  3. What happened at the end?
