Number Patterns
Aligned to 3.OA.D.9 — Common Core State Standards for Mathematics.
What this lesson teaches
Numbers make patterns you can see. Even and odd numbers take turns, and skip-counting numbers grow by the same jump each time.
Worked example
Count by 5s: 5, 10, 15, 20, 25. Each number is 5 more than the one before. Look at the ones digit: it is always 0 or 5.
Practice questions
- Write the next three numbers: 4, 8, 12, __, __, __.
- Are the multiples of 2 all even or all odd? Explain.
- What jump makes this pattern: 6, 12, 18, 24?
