Multiply with Equal Groups

What this lesson teaches

Multiplication means putting together equal groups. The first number tells how many groups. The second number tells how many are in each group.

Worked example

5 plates with 7 cookies on each plate. That is 5 groups of 7. Count: 7, 14, 21, 28, 35. So 5 × 7 = 35 cookies.

Practice questions

  1. Draw 4 groups of 3 marbles and write the multiplication.
  2. What does 6 × 2 mean in words?
  3. There are 3 baskets with 8 apples each. Write and solve the multiplication.
