What this lesson teaches

Multiplication and division are opposites. If you know one fact, you know its family. Practice helps you remember them fast.

Example 1

You know 6 × 8 = 48. That means 48 ÷ 8 = 6 and 48 ÷ 6 = 8 too. One fact family gives you four facts.

Example 2

You know 7 × 9 = 63. That gives you 9 × 7 = 63, 63 ÷ 9 = 7, and 63 ÷ 7 = 9 for free.

Example 3

The squares are worth memorizing on their own: 6 × 6 = 36, 7 × 7 = 49, 8 × 8 = 64. Their fact family only has two facts, not four.
