What this lesson teaches
Clear writing fits its task, purpose, and audience. Before drafting, decide what the reader needs, how formal to be, and how to organize so the development and style serve that goal.
Worked example
A request to a principal for a new club opens with the benefit to students and stays formal; the same idea texted to a friend can start with 'we should totally start a club' and drop the structure.
Practice questions
- Name the audience and purpose for a piece you plan to write.
- Choose an organization that fits that purpose and outline it.
- Adjust one sentence's formality to match the intended reader.
