What this lesson teaches
Strong analytical writing pulls specific evidence from literary or informational texts and explains how it supports a point. The explanation, not the quotation alone, does the analytic work.
Worked example
Quoting that a narrator 'counted the exits in every room he entered' supports a claim about his anxiety only when you add that habitual counting shows a mind rehearsing escape.
Practice questions
- Make a claim about a text and choose one exact quotation to support it.
- Write two sentences explaining how the quotation proves the claim.
- Add a second piece of evidence and show how it extends the same point.
