Teamwork, sportsmanship, and responsibility

Aligned to SHAPE 4 — SHAPE America National Standards.

What this lesson teaches

Good sportsmanship means playing fairly, following the rules, and being kind whether you win or lose. Teamwork means working together, encouraging teammates, and including everyone. Accepting feedback and shaking hands after a game shows respect and responsibility.

Worked example

If your team loses a close game, a good sport says good game to the other team and tells a teammate nice try, instead of getting upset or blaming others.

Practice questions

  1. Say one thing a good sport does after losing.
  2. How can you include a teammate who feels left out?
  3. Why is following the rules important?
