Movement strategies and simple game tactics
Aligned to SHAPE 2 — SHAPE America National Standards.
What this lesson teaches
Strategy means moving with a plan instead of just chasing the ball. In games you can look for open space where no defender is, decide when to play offense or defense, and pace yourself so you do not get tired too fast. Thinking about the why behind your moves makes games more fun and helps your team.
Worked example
In a game of tag or keep-away, instead of running straight at the ball, move into an open spot where no one is guarding, so a teammate can pass to you.
Practice questions
- Point to the open space in a game.
- Explain offense versus defense in one game.
- How do you pace yourself so you do not tire out?
