What this lesson teaches
Skilled writers work in both long and short time frames, from a quick response to a researched essay. Adjust your process to the task, purpose, and audience, whether you have ten minutes or two weeks.
Worked examples
Example 1
A five-minute journal entry can be rough and personal, while a two-week report needs planning and sources; matching effort to the task keeps both pieces effective.
Example 2
A journal entry is allowed to be bad. That is what makes it possible to write one every day, which is the point of the habit.
Example 3
Match effort to stakes. Spending a week polishing a five-minute assignment is a planning failure, not diligence.
