What this lesson teaches
A narrative develops a real or imagined experience through a clear sequence of events, vivid details, and techniques like dialogue and pacing. Establish a situation, build tension, and end with a resolution.
Worked example
You open with a character locking a door 'twice, then a third time,' a detail that hints at fear, then build events toward the moment the lock finally fails.
Practice questions
- Write an opening line that hints at a character's mood.
- Sequence three events so tension rises.
- Add one line of dialogue that reveals character.
