What this lesson teaches
A theme is the deeper message a story reveals, not just its topic. Track how it grows through the characters, setting, and plot, then write a summary that reports events without adding your opinion.
Worked example
A tale about a runner who quits then returns builds the theme that failure is not final. An objective summary states what happens; it never says the ending is 'inspiring.'
Practice questions
- State a story's theme in one sentence, not just its subject.
- Show one plot event that develops that theme.
- Write a two-sentence summary with no opinion words.

Tema, Desarrollo y Resumen
El tema es el mensaje profundo que revela un relato, no solo el asunto del que trata. Sigue cómo crece a través de los personajes, el ambiente y la trama; luego escribe un resumen que informe los hechos sin agregar tu opinión.
Ejemplo: Un cuento sobre un corredor que abandona y luego vuelve construye el tema de que el fracaso no es definitivo. Un resumen objetivo dice lo que ocurre; nunca dice que el final es 'inspirador.'
