What this lesson teaches
Good writing fits its task, purpose, and audience. Match your organization, word choice, and tone to who will read it and why you are writing.
Worked examples
Example 1
Emailing a principal, you'd write, 'I respectfully request a change to the schedule.' Texting a friend, 'Can we switch days?' Same idea, but tone and formality shift to fit the audience.
Example 2
The same request, three registers: 'switch days?'; 'Could we switch days?'; 'I am writing to request a change to the schedule.'
Example 3
Coherence is mostly about order. A paragraph where every sentence is clear but the sequence is wrong still reads as confused writing.
Practice questions
- Write one sentence asking for something, aimed at a close friend.
- Rewrite that same request for a teacher or official, adjusting tone and word choice.
- Explain one organization choice you'd make differently for a formal vs. casual piece.

Escritura clara y coherente
La buena escritura se ajusta a su tarea, propósito y público. Adapta tu organización, vocabulario y tono a quién leerá y por qué escribes.
Ejemplo 1: Al escribir a un director: 'Solicito respetuosamente un cambio de horario.' A un amigo: '¿Cambiamos de día?' Misma idea, pero el tono y la formalidad cambian según el público.
Ejemplo 2: La misma petición, tres registros: '¿cambiamos de día?'; '¿Podríamos cambiar el día?'; 'Escribo para solicitar un cambio en el horario.'
Ejemplo 3: La coherencia es sobre todo cuestión de orden. Un párrafo donde cada oración es clara pero la secuencia está mal igual se lee como un texto confuso.
