Two-Step Word Problems

What this lesson teaches

Some problems need two steps. Do the first step, then use that answer to do the second step. Check that your answer makes sense.

Maria has 3 boxes with 6 crayons each, then loses 4. First: 3 × 6 = 18 crayons. Second: 18 − 4 = 14 crayons left.

You buy 4 packs of 5 stickers, then give away 3. How many are left?
There are 20 apples. You eat 2, then share the rest among 3 friends. How many each?
A bus has 8 rows of 4 seats. If 10 people sit down, how many empty seats?
