Measuring Length with Standard Units; Line Plots

What this lesson teaches
A ruler uses standard units like inches and centimeters so everyone measures the same way. You line the start of the object up with zero and read the number at the other end. You can also show a set of measurements on a line plot, where each mark stands for one measurement.
Worked example
Place a crayon at the 0 mark of a ruler. If the other end reaches the 5, the crayon is 5 inches long.
Practice questions
- Measure a pencil in inches with a ruler.
- Estimate, then measure how long your shoe is.
- If 3 friends are 48, 50, and 50 inches tall, what length appears twice on a line plot?

Una regla usa unidades estándar como pulgadas y centímetros para que todos midan de la misma manera. Colocas el inicio del objeto en el cero y lees el número en el otro extremo. También puedes mostrar un conjunto de medidas en un diagrama de puntos, donde cada marca representa una medida.
