Telling a Story in Writing

What this lesson teaches
A story tells what happened in order. Add details about what you saw and felt, and end with how it turned out.
Worked examples
Example 1
First we drove to the beach. Then I built a big sandcastle. The waves were cold on my toes. At last we went home, happy and tired.
Example 2
First the power went out. Then we found candles. The house felt strange and quiet. At last the lights came back and everyone cheered.
Example 3
Add what you felt, not just what happened. 'The house felt strange and quiet' is why a reader keeps going.
Practice questions
- Write a sentence about something that happened to you.
- Add what happened next, using order words like 'then' and 'next'.
- Write an ending that tells how it all turned out.
