What this lesson teaches

Good writers fix their work. Read it again, add details, and correct mistakes to make it clearer.

Example 1

First: 'I have a dog.' Better: 'I have a small brown dog named Spot who loves to run.'

Example 2

First: 'We went to the store.' Better: 'On Friday we walked to the corner store to buy milk before it closed.'

Example 3

Cutting can improve writing as much as adding. If a word does not do a job, take it out.
