What this lesson teaches
Good readers ask questions like who, what, where, when, why, and how. The answers are the important details in a story.
Worked example
In a story, a boy named Sam loses his hat at the park. Who? Sam. What? He lost his hat. Where? The park.
Practice questions
- Read a short story and find who the main character is.
- Ask a 'where' and a 'when' question about the story, then answer them.
- Write a 'why' question about the story and explain the answer using details.
