What this lesson teaches
You can read and understand stories and poems made for your grade. Take your time and think about what happens.
Worked examples
Example 1
After reading a short story about a lost puppy, you can tell who found it, where, and how everyone felt at the end.
Example 2
After a story about a boy who moves to a new town, you can say who helped him settle in and how he felt at the start and the end.
Example 3
If you finish a story and cannot say what changed, read the last page again. Something almost always changed.
Practice questions
- Read a grade-level story from start to finish.
- Stop when a part is tricky and read it again to understand.
- Tell a friend what the story was about in your own words.

Leer cuentos por tu cuenta
Puedes leer y comprender cuentos y poemas hechos para tu grado. Tómate tu tiempo y piensa en lo que pasa.
Ejemplo 1: Después de leer un cuento corto sobre un perrito perdido, puedes decir quién lo encontró, dónde y cómo se sintieron todos al final.
Ejemplo 2: Después de un cuento sobre un niño que se muda a un pueblo nuevo, puedes decir quién lo ayudó a adaptarse y cómo se sintió al principio y al final.
Ejemplo 3: Si terminas un cuento y no puedes decir qué cambió, vuelve a leer la última página. Casi siempre cambió algo.
