Sorting Into Groups

Aligned to K.MD.B.3 — Common Core State Standards for Mathematics.

What this lesson teaches

We can put things into groups that are alike, count each group, and see which group has the most.

Example 1

Sort your crayons: 3 red and 5 blue. Count each color - blue has more because 5 is bigger than 3.

Example 2

Sort your socks by color: 4 white and 2 black. White has more, because 4 is bigger than 2.

Example 3

Sort the same buttons a new way — by size instead of color. The buttons did not change, but the groups did.

Ejemplo 1: Ordena tus crayones: 3 rojos y 5 azules. Cuenta cada color - el azul tiene más porque 5 es mayor que 3.
