Simulating Conservation

What this lesson teaches

Computer simulations let scientists test conservation ideas before acting in the real world. By changing one factor at a time, they predict how a solution affects population sizes and biodiversity.

Worked example

A model of a fishery sets a catch limit, runs decades of simulated seasons, and shows which limit keeps the fish population stable instead of collapsing.

Practice questions

  1. Identify one variable a conservation simulation might change.
  2. Design a simple simulation to test whether a catch limit saves a fish population.
