What this lesson teaches
A central idea is the main point a text develops over many paragraphs, and you can analyze how the author builds and structures it. You should also judge whether the reasoning is valid and the evidence is enough.
Worked example
In a speech arguing for clean energy, the central idea unfolds across paragraphs. You ask: does each claim have solid evidence, or does the author just assert it?
