What this lesson teaches
The Greeks made lasting advances in thinking and the arts. Philosophers used reason to ask how to know truth and live well; playwrights invented tragedy and comedy; and shared festivals like the Olympic Games united rival city-states in peaceful competition. Many of these ideas still shape schools, science, and government today.
Worked example
The philosopher Socrates taught by asking probing questions — the "Socratic method" still used in classrooms — while his student Plato and Plato's student Aristotle laid foundations for logic, science, and political thought that Western scholars built on for centuries.
