What this lesson teaches
Ancient Egypt grew along the Nile, whose yearly floods made desert land farmable. Egyptians were ruled by god-kings called pharaohs, wrote in picture-signs called hieroglyphs, and built pyramids as royal tombs. To the south lay Kush (Nubia), a rich neighbor that traded gold with Egypt and later conquered it.
Worked example
The Great Pyramid at Giza, built for Pharaoh Khufu around 2560 BCE from over 2 million stone blocks, still stands today — proof of Egypt's organized labor, engineering, and belief in a royal afterlife. Centuries later, Kushite kings from the city of Napata ruled Egypt as its 25th Dynasty.
