What this lesson teaches
Clear writing matches its task, purpose, and audience. Before you draft, decide what you're writing, why, and for whom — those choices set your organization, level of detail, and tone.
Worked examples
Example 1
Explaining a game to a younger child: short sentences, friendly tone, step order. The same rules for a rulebook: precise terms, numbered steps, formal tone. Same content, shaped differently to fit the audience and purpose.
Example 2
The same complaint, three ways: to a friend, 'this is ridiculous'; to a teacher, 'I think there may be an error'; in a formal letter, 'I am writing to request a review.'
Example 3
Register is not about being polite. A safety notice written casually gets ignored, and that is a failure of the writing, not the reader.
Practice questions
- Name the task, purpose, and audience for something you plan to write.
- Draft one paragraph, then adjust two words to better fit that audience.
- Explain one organization choice you made because of your purpose.

Escribir Según la Tarea
Una escritura clara se ajusta a su tarea, propósito y público. Antes de redactar, decide qué vas a escribir, para qué y para quién — esas decisiones fijan tu organización, tu nivel de detalle y tu tono.
Ejemplo 1: Explicar un juego a un niño pequeño: oraciones cortas, tono amable, orden de pasos. Las mismas reglas para un reglamento: términos precisos, pasos numerados, tono formal. Mismo contenido, moldeado distinto según el público y el propósito.
Ejemplo 2: La misma queja, de tres formas: a un amigo, 'esto es ridículo'; a un maestro, 'creo que puede haber un error'; en una carta formal, 'escribo para solicitar una revisión.'
Ejemplo 3: El registro no se trata de cortesía. Un aviso de seguridad escrito de forma casual se ignora, y eso es una falla de la escritura, no de quien lee.
