Writing and Publishing with Technology

Aligned to W.6.6 — Common Core State Standards for English Language Arts.

What this lesson teaches

Use tools like word processors and shared documents to draft, format, and publish your writing, and to collaborate with others. Build keyboarding skill so typing keeps pace with your thinking.

Worked example

In a shared doc, one writer drafts a paragraph and a partner adds a comment — 'add an example here' — instead of rewriting it. The tool lets both revise the same piece and produce a clean, formatted final version.

Practice questions

  1. Type a short paragraph in a word processor and apply a heading and a bulleted list.
  2. Use comments or track changes to give a partner one piece of feedback.
  3. Time yourself typing a sentence, then retype it aiming for fewer errors.
