Discussion & Multimedia Presentations
Aligned to SL.5.1 — Common Core State Standards for English Language Arts.
What this lesson teaches
Come to discussions prepared, summarize what others say, and stay on topic. When presenting, sequence your ideas logically and add a visual like a photo, drawing, or slide to make them clearer.
Worked example
Before discussing a book, you jot two notes. In the talk you say, 'Maria thinks the hero was brave; I agree because...' and you show a drawing of the key scene.
Practice questions
- Prepare two notes before a discussion and use them.
- Summarize another person's main point.
- Plan a short talk with one visual aid.
