Equivalent Fractions

What this lesson teaches
Two fractions are equal if one is the other scaled up or down. Multiply (or divide) the numerator AND denominator by the same number — you're cutting each piece into more equal pieces, so the amount stays the same.
Worked example
Is 3/4 equal to 9/12? Multiply top and bottom of 3/4 by 3: (3×3)/(4×3) = 9/12. Yes — same amount, smaller pieces.

Fracciones equivalentes
Dos fracciones son iguales si una se obtiene de la otra al ampliarla o reducirla. Multiplica (o divide) el numerador Y el denominador por el mismo número — estás dividiendo cada parte en más porciones iguales, por lo que la cantidad no cambia.
Ejemplo: ¿Es 3/4 igual a 9/12? Multiplica el numerador y el denominador de 3/4 por 3: (3×3)/(4×3) = 9/12. Sí — es la misma cantidad, solo en partes más pequeñas.
