Decimal Notation for Fractions

What this lesson teaches
Fractions with a denominator of 10 or 100 can be written as decimals. One tenth is 0.1 and one hundredth is 0.01. The decimal and the fraction are just two ways to write the same amount, which is why a dime is 1/10 of a dollar.
Worked examples
Example 1
Write 3/10 as a decimal. Three tenths means 0.3. And 7/100 is written as 0.07.
Example 2
Write 47/100 as a decimal: 0.47. The hundredths place is the second digit after the point.
Example 3
0.5 and 0.50 are the same number. Five tenths and fifty hundredths describe the same amount, just cut into different-sized pieces.

- A nickel is 5 cents. Write that as a fraction of a dollar.

Notación Decimal para Fracciones
Las fracciones con denominador 10 o 100 se pueden escribir como decimales. Un décimo es 0.1 y un centésimo es 0.01. El decimal y la fracción son solo dos formas de escribir la misma cantidad, por eso un décimo de peso equivale a 1/10 del peso.
Ejemplo 1: Escribe 3/10 como decimal. Tres décimos equivale a 0.3. Y 7/100 se escribe como 0.07.
Ejemplo 2: Escribe 47/100 como decimal: 0.47. El lugar de los centésimos es el segundo dígito después del punto.
Ejemplo 3: 0.5 y 0.50 son el mismo número. Cinco décimos y cincuenta centésimos describen la misma cantidad, solo que en partes de distinto tamaño.
