What this lesson teaches
Good readers can enjoy and understand many kinds of stories — chapter books, plays, and poems — that match their grade. When a book feels a little hard, you keep going by rereading tricky parts, asking questions, and picturing the scenes in your mind.
Worked examples
Example 1
If a chapter book uses a word you don't know, a strong reader slows down, reads the sentence again, checks the picture in their head, and keeps reading instead of giving up.
Example 2
A strong reader notices when they stopped understanding and goes back to that sentence, instead of reading three more pages on autopilot.
Example 3
Pick books at two levels: one you can read easily to build speed, and one that stretches you. You need both.
Practice questions
- Name three different kinds of stories you have read this year.
- Describe one trick you use when a page feels too hard.
- Explain how rereading a confusing part can help you understand a whole story.

Los buenos lectores pueden disfrutar y entender muchos tipos de historias — libros de capítulos, obras y poemas — que corresponden a su grado. Cuando un libro se siente un poco difícil, sigues adelante releyendo las partes complicadas, haciendo preguntas e imaginando las escenas en tu mente.
Ejemplo 1: Si un libro de capítulos usa una palabra que no conoces, un lector fuerte va más despacio, lee la oración otra vez, revisa la imagen en su mente y sigue leyendo en lugar de rendirse.
Ejemplo 2: Un buen lector nota cuándo dejó de entender y regresa a esa oración, en vez de leer tres páginas más en automático.
Ejemplo 3: Escoge libros de dos niveles: uno que leas con facilidad para ganar velocidad y otro que te exija. Necesitas los dos.
