Time, Mass, Liquid Volume, and Graphs
Aligned to 3.MD.A.1 — Common Core State Standards for Mathematics.
What this lesson teaches
You can tell time to the minute and figure out how much time has passed between two clock times. You can also measure mass in grams and liquid volume in liters, and draw a scaled bar graph where each square stands for more than one.
Worked example
A movie starts at 4:15 and ends at 4:50. From 4:15 to 4:50 is 35 minutes, so the movie lasted 35 minutes.
Practice questions
- How many minutes are between 2:10 and 2:45?
- Would you measure a glass of juice in grams or liters?
- On a bar graph where each square equals 2, how tall is a bar showing 8?
