What this lesson teaches
Area is the amount of flat space a shape covers, measured in square units. For a rectangle, multiply length × width.
Worked example
A rug 5 ft long and 3 ft wide covers 5 × 3 = 15 square feet.
Practice questions
- Find the area of a 6×4 rectangle.
- A square is 7 cm on each side — what's its area?
- Two rectangles both have area 12. Give their dimensions.
