Writing a Story
Aligned to W.3.3 — Common Core State Standards for English Language Arts.
What this lesson teaches
A story tells about events in order. Add details, let characters speak, and use words like 'first' and 'next' to show what happens.
Worked examples
Example 1
'First, Lea found a lost kitten. "Don't worry," she whispered, and next she carried it safely home.' The order and the talking bring it to life.
Example 2
'The storm knocked the power out. “Stay together,” Dad said, handing me a flashlight. By morning the lights were back.'
Example 3
End the story, do not just stop it. A narrative that runs out of page is not the same as one that finishes.
Practice questions
- Write a beginning that introduces a character.
- Add one line of dialogue where a character speaks.
- Use order words to show what happens next and last.

Escribir un Cuento
Un cuento narra los eventos en orden. Agrega detalles, deja que los personajes hablen y usa palabras como 'primero' y 'después' para mostrar qué pasa.
