Opinion Writing with Reasons

What this lesson teaches

State your opinion clearly, then support it with several reasons, using linking words (because, also, for example) and a closing sentence.

Worked example

Opinion: 'Recess should be longer.' Reasons: it helps us focus (because), it's good exercise (also). Closing: 'For these reasons, recess should be longer.'

Practice questions

  1. Write an opinion and two reasons.
  2. Add a linking word between your reasons.
  3. Write a closing sentence that restates your opinion.
