What this lesson teaches
Books have special parts that help you find facts fast. Bold words, headings, and captions point you to what you need.
Worked examples
Example 1
To find pages about sharks, you look up 'shark' in the index at the back and it says page 12.
Example 2
To find how long a whale lives, check the table of contents for a chapter, or the index for 'whale, lifespan'.
Example 3
The glossary near the back defines the book's hard words. It is faster than a dictionary because it only has this book's words.
Practice questions
- Point to a heading in a book and tell what that part is about.
- Use bold words to find an important idea on a page.
- Use an index or glossary to look something up.

Las partes de un libro
Los libros tienen partes especiales que te ayudan a hallar datos rápido. Las palabras en negrita, los títulos y los pies de foto te guían.
Ejemplo 1: Para hallar páginas sobre tiburones, buscas 'tiburón' en el índice del final y dice página 12.
Ejemplo 2: Para saber cuánto vive una ballena, revisa la tabla de contenido por un capítulo, o el índice por 'ballena, vida'.
Ejemplo 3: El glosario del final define las palabras difíciles del libro. Es más rápido que un diccionario porque solo tiene las palabras de este libro.
