What this lesson teaches
When you read to learn, ask who, what, where, when, why, and how. The answers help you find the key facts.
Worked examples
Example 1
A page about bees says they make honey in a hive. What do bees make? Honey. Where? In a hive.
Example 2
A page about deserts says cactuses store water in their stems. What do cactuses store? Water. Where? In their stems.
Example 3
If the page does not answer your question, that is worth noticing. Not every book answers everything, and knowing what is missing is useful.
Practice questions
- Read a fact page and answer a 'what' question about it.
- Ask a 'why' or 'how' question about the facts, then answer it.
- Find three key facts that answer different question words.

Preguntas de datos
Cuando lees para aprender, pregunta quién, qué, dónde, cuándo, por qué y cómo. Las respuestas te ayudan a hallar los datos importantes.
Ejemplo 1: Una página sobre las abejas dice que hacen miel en una colmena. ¿Qué hacen las abejas? Miel. ¿Dónde? En una colmena.
Ejemplo 2: Una página sobre los desiertos dice que los cactus guardan agua en sus tallos. ¿Qué guardan los cactus? Agua. ¿Dónde? En sus tallos.
Ejemplo 3: Si la página no responde tu pregunta, eso vale la pena notarlo. No todo libro responde todo, y saber qué falta es útil.
