Formal or Friendly?

What this lesson teaches

We talk one way with friends and another way in polite places. Choose the words that fit where you are.

Example 1

With a friend you might say, 'Hi!' To a principal you might say, 'Good morning, how are you?'

Example 2

Writing to a friend: 'Can't wait to see you!' Writing to a librarian: 'I would like to return this book, please.'

Example 3

Formal is not better, it is different. Being too formal with a friend is as odd as being too casual with a stranger.

Ejemplo 1: Con un amigo dices: '¡Hola!' Con el director dices: 'Buenos días, ¿cómo está usted?'

Ejemplo 2: Escribiéndole a un amigo: '¡Ya quiero verte!' Escribiéndole a una bibliotecaria: 'Me gustaría devolver este libro, por favor.'

Ejemplo 3: Lo formal no es mejor, es distinto. Ser demasiado formal con un amigo es tan raro como ser demasiado informal con un desconocido.
