Adding Bigger Numbers

What this lesson teaches

To add a two-digit number and a one-digit number, we can add the ones first, then put the tens back on.

Example 1

23 + 4. Add the ones: 3 + 4 = 7. Keep the 2 tens: the answer is 27.

Example 2

61 + 7. Add the ones: 1 + 7 = 8. Keep the 6 tens: the answer is 68.

Example 3

40 + 30. There are no ones at all, so just add the tens: 4 tens plus 3 tens is 7 tens, which is 70.

Ejemplo 1: 23 + 4. Suma las unidades: 3 + 4 = 7. Guarda las 2 decenas: la respuesta es 27.

Ejemplo 2: 61 + 7. Suma las unidades: 1 + 7 = 8. Guarda las 6 decenas: la respuesta es 68.
