10 More, 10 Less

What this lesson teaches

When we add 10, only the tens go up by one. When we take 10 away, only the tens go down by one. The ones stay the same.

Example 1

10 more than 34 is 44. 10 less than 34 is 24. See how only the tens digit changed?

Example 2

10 more than 57 is 67. 10 less than 57 is 47. The 7 ones never moved.

Example 3

Add 10 to 95 and the tens roll over into a new hundred: 95 + 10 = 105.
