Picture or Words?

What this lesson teaches
A fact book gives us information in two ways. The pictures show us things, and the words tell us things.
Worked examples
Example 1
A picture shows a big whale in the sea. The words tell us the whale is the biggest animal. Each one helps us learn.
Example 2
A picture shows a tall giraffe next to a tree. The words tell us how many feet tall it is. The number is something a picture cannot say.
Example 3
Pictures are good at 'what it looks like.' Words are good at 'how many' and 'why.'
Practice questions
- Look at a picture. What does it show you?
- Read the words. What do they tell you?
- Tell one thing you learned only from the picture.

¿Dibujo o Palabras?
Un libro de datos nos da información de dos maneras. Los dibujos nos muestran cosas y las palabras nos dicen cosas.
Ejemplo 1: Un dibujo muestra una ballena grande en el mar. Las palabras nos dicen que la ballena es el animal más grande. Cada uno nos ayuda a aprender.
Ejemplo 2: Un dibujo muestra una jirafa alta junto a un árbol. Las palabras nos dicen cuántos pies mide. El número es algo que un dibujo no puede decir.
Ejemplo 3: Los dibujos son buenos para 'cómo se ve'. Las palabras son buenas para 'cuántos' y 'por qué'.
